Human Farm Investigation How to Play Human Farm : Investigation :

Undercover policing, farm routines, and city errands in one daily loop.

What kind of game is this?

Human Farm : Investigation : is a story RPG on Steam (app 3953160) developed by とっくり海月 and published by 072 Project. It is the third numbered entry after Human Farm: Rehabilitation and Human Farm: Practice Section. You control Iori, a policewoman working undercover inside an illegal underground human farm. Gameplay alternates between narrative investigation, location exploration, farm-shift management, and optional city quests that advance your case against the operation.

The full release launched August 7, 2026 with thirty-four story events, five or more endings, achievements, and an in-game scene gallery. A free demo on Steam covers Day 1 only. All cast in mature scenes are adults aged twenty or older. Supported languages on Steam include English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

First launch checklist

Before reading further, confirm these settings and controls — they prevent the most common new-player friction:

  1. Open the menu with X or Esc and enable run mode in settings. Walking everywhere without it wastes in-game time. Details live in Settings and Run Mode.
  2. Move with arrow keys; confirm or inspect with Z or Enter. Mouse clicks do not open doors on the PC build — use keyboard confirmation at door tiles.
  3. Skim Keyboard Controls for menu shortcuts and text advance keys.
  4. If you are evaluating the purchase, play Demo Day 1 first; demo saves do not transfer to the full game.

The daily loop explained

Each in-game day generally follows a repeating structure you will refine as routes open:

Morning briefing and objectives. Iori receives updates from police allies such as Tsubaki or field contacts. Objectives may point to farm rooms, the cafe hub, or city districts. Check the quest log before leaving your starting area.

Farm shift. The underground farm is where farm RPG mechanics matter most. You interact with residents including Aina and Karen, perform assigned tasks, and gather evidence without blowing cover. Farm scenes often gate evening content — skipping chores can lock events even when story flags are otherwise correct.

City errands. When leads point topside, travel to city locations documented in City Quests and the City Locations map page. City quests feed investigation progress, unlock items, and deepen relationships with Maria, Rui, Alice, and others.

Evening social and story beats. Night periods host many story events. Time windows are strict: if you dawdle in the wrong district, the game silently fails the scene for that day. Use Beginner Tips save slots before risky evenings.

Report and sleep. Some days end with police debriefs or internal monologue that set flags for endings. Missing a report can branch you away from true-ending requirements listed in True Ending Checklist.

Investigation and cover

Unlike pure visual novels, Investigation tracks how suspicious you appear and how complete your evidence file is. Talking to the wrong NPC twice, refusing farm labor, or skipping city follow-ups can raise suspicion or stall the case meter. The Investigation Mechanics page lists UI elements and meter names as they appear in English.

Cover is not a single mini-game — it emerges from consistent choices: participate in farm work, avoid contradicting the Boss pastry chef in public, and complete Tsubaki’s requests on schedule. Blown cover routes exist and tie into alternate endings described in Ending Routes.

There are thirty-four story events in the full game. Unlocking them for the gallery requires meeting character-specific conditions during normal play. The in-game scene unlocker and cheat options (see Cheats and Unlockers) can replay or skip action segments but do not unlock endings. Ending requirements are separate flag chains — read How to Get Endings before you assume a completed gallery equals story completion.

Items, economy, and optional content

Items range from investigation tools to gifts that shift affection. The Items reference explains where key objects appear and which quests consume them. Not every item is mandatory for a first clear, but true-ending paths often expect you to deliver specific objects on fixed days.

Optional cafe scenes with Alice and back-office talks with Maria provide flavor and sometimes hidden flags. The Cafe Hub map page notes which tables trigger events.

Steam cut content and restore patch

072 Project hosts an official restore patch for players who want content restored outside the default Steam cut. If a scene appears in community lists but not your gallery, verify patch status before filing bug reports — Official Patch and Patch Install Helper walk through install order and backup saves.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can I play with a mouse only?

Movement and menus work partially with mouse, but doors require Z or Enter. See [Keyboard Controls](/controls/keyboard-controls/).

Does the demo teach the full loop?

Day 1 introduces farm and infiltration basics only. City quests and later endings need the full game.

What is the fastest way to unlock scenes?

Follow character days in [How to Unlock Scenes](/guides/how-to-unlock-scenes/) and keep multiple save slots.

Do cheats block achievements?

Cheats and the scene unlocker affect action segments, not ending flags. Details in [Cheats and Unlockers](/systems/cheats-and-unlockers/).

Is co-op supported?

No. Investigation is a single-player story RPG on Steam.
